1963 - 2003
Father of Cassie, Author of the enchanting novel Exodus; The Dolph/in Saga.
International Poet and Author of Arc of the Ancients and other Poetry - his published poetry collection. Also, computer graphic artist and book jacket illustrator. Even though the severe pain he endured may have slowed his output during the past year his spirit remained as strong as ever and for him poetry was still soul music which allows you to hear the heart of humanity, the great song from which we all can learn so much.
Martin’s poems have also been widely published internationally on the Dome and other internet sites and also in various anthologies including the Anthologies of World Poetry published by Cyberwit in India. Martin has written poetry since his teens along with stories and thought provoking articles.
Martin cared deeply for the environment and had a special empathy for dolphins and whales This empathy shines through Exodus The Dolph/in Saga. In the past he swam in the sea in all weathers around the year and loved to swim with seals from one of the seal colonies that share his island. His other interests included computers, reading, science fiction/fantasy, music, history, walking and camping.
Martin was a unique and very special 'old soul' full of wisdom and compassion with great generosity and honesty of spirit. He was a very warm, gentle, caring, kind and loving man with a great sense of humour that did not diminish even when enduring great pain. He adored Cassie and as she would say he was "The Bestest Daddy in the World". He was very proud of Cassie and they brought each other much joy. His incandescent Spirit lit a flame in my heart which will continue to burn across the eons of time and space. During our years together we have woven a rich and colourful tapestry of wonderful precious memories that Cassie and I will always cherish in our hearts and souls.
A truly spiritual being, he has worked hard all his adult life for Gaia and humanity on all levels in unseen ways with no desire for recognition or thanks. We are very proud of him for his many achievements on all levels and only those of us closest to him know just how much he gave of himself and the sacrifices he made in the cause of humanity. An extraordinary man - the world will not see his like again.
The following lines from Miracle in the Darkness say much about Martin’s ethos;-
Time to choose a different way and make a true
Miracle from the light that is the hope,
That lies waiting to be upheld.
To unite in humanity, to unite in diversity,
To unite our hopes and fears in peace.
The same indomitable spirit which helped him rise above the painful experiences of his childhood has enabled him to face the pain and suffering he has endured this past year with incredible courage. But though the Best and Brightest of Lights was extinguished when he died the Eternal Flame of his Spirit lives on and burns ever more brightly. A shining example to us all. His heart may have stopped beating but he had the biggest and warmest of hearts.
The eyes are the mirror of the soul and the warmth and wisdom of his spirit certainly shone through his eyes as it does through his poems. Martin’s thought provoking and inspirational poems are from the soul and they rarely fail to touch the spirit deeply.
When one reads his poems one should listen to their harmonies and their wisdom with your spirit. Sometimes you’ll find your perceptions challenged, sometimes you’ll feel inspired, sometimes you’ll be enchanted, sometimes you’ll be uplifted, sometimes you’ll feel the wisdom, sometimes you’ll share a precious moment, sometimes you’ll feel spiritual, sometimes you’ll be moved to tears and sometimes you’ll laugh but you’ll not remain untouched.
The Arc of the Ancients collection of poems that includes the Prologue to Arc of the Ancients Series, Arc of the Ancients - Invocation of the Paradigm, a Series and Epilogue to Arc of the Ancients followed by The 911 Aftermath Poems show a true understanding of life and humanity in all its diversity and complexities. They show what has been, what is and what could be. The work of a Visionary. The wider issues confronting humanity on its spiritual journey are confronted in the Arc of the Ancients but really I can’t put it better than to use Martin’s own words from the final two verses of Quantum Redux i.e.
The heritage of the Arc of the Ancients is a warning,
A gift and a reminder that each step you take,
Touches the world once gross and subtle,
Each an invocation of the paradigm,
In the eternal journey of the soul.
A revolution is occurring,
You may not see it but you will feel it,
When the fivefold pattern is born in your heart,
Lighting your mind to the possibilities of your soul,
A reflection on eternity - the face of the Quantum Redux…
Although I hope my words have captured some of Martin’s essence here I feel that the only way to know more of him will be for you to read his two books.
And finally I must let Martin have the last word on why we die.
… "You have to realize that the reason why you die is that your life is your creative act and thus when you have finished, only moment in perspective of time you have to leave for there are other flowers waiting for you to kiss. So you have a moment to kiss the flower so kiss it well! If you do it with a lot of love and care you’ll make lovely flowers bloom next year. That’s your gift , your act in the Garden of Eden."
